It is located in scenic Alton, New Hampshire and lies at the
base of Prospect Mountain, less than 5 miles from 3 different
lakes: Lake Winnipesaukee, Merrymeeting Lake, and Locke Lake.
Gunstock Ski area, famous for it's year round recreation, is
only a 20 minute drive from the house.
This 1795, 4000 sq. ft. colonial house has just been restored
to period. Although once surrounded by acres of pastures
(hence it's historic name "High Pastures") it is currently
found on 26 acres of wooded land. The property is surrounded by
beautiful old stone walls, a stone bridge, and trails which wind
over the hilly terrain.
Inside, it is furnished with a blend of antiques and comfortable furniture.
The house features 4 bedrooms and the ability to sleep up to 13 people.
The dining room features an enourmous working fireplace complete
with bake oven and ashpit. The antique table easily seats 10 people.
Modern amenities have been blended with the old charm of the house
in the form of a 6 person outdoor hot tub, hammock, a new kitchen in
stainless steel, two bathrooms, wireless internet, and an entertainment
system with CD/DVD/TV and stereo. The downstairs of the house is heated
with radiant ("in-floor") heating, while the upstairs has a seperatly
controlled thermostat.
In addition, a canoe and a kayak for use on the nearby lakes or
Merrymeeting River are provided free of charge. If you wish, you
can also rent Sea Doos, Fishing Boats and Motor Boats nearby in Alton Bay.
Nearby attractions are the abundant lakes of the region, mountains,
Weirs Beach (30 min), scenic Portsmouth NH (45 min), and the
Atlantic Ocean (1 hour). North Conway, with it's legendary shopping
and mountain activites is slighly more than an hour drive.
The house is located at the base of Prospect Mountain, and a short
hike or ski to the top of the mountain yields a wonderful view of
Lake Winnipesaukee, and on a clear day Mount Washington is visible.
In the winter, snowmobilers have easy access from the house to State
Route #22 directly from the house.
Other nearby activities include sledding, ice skating, ice fishing, etc.
This is a 4 season house and is ideal for summer vacationers,
leaf peepers, and winter sports enthusiasts.
